The Benson Model  Service Redesign

Our consulting services aim to support clients to evaluate future strategy using the Benson model and bespoke analysis. This will identify opportunities and express potential benefits from making future changes. These changes may be part of existing strategies, ongoing evolution or one-off restructuring.  Alternatively management may be reviewing several possible alternatives for development. These projects allow Providers and Commissioners to predict the operational and financial impact of the following types of changes:

  • Applying innovative ideas and approaches
  • Identifying opportunities, areas of risk or inconsistent practice
  • Change of team structure / geographical catchments
  • Change of caseload basis, e.g. from GP list to geographic LSOA / ward mapping
  • Objective development of more optimal structures that seek to reduce inefficiency, duplication and inconsistency
  • Realisation of opportunities to integrate services and avoid duplication
  • Better use of central administrative, allocation and triage hubs
  • Identifying implicit costs and risks
  • Integration of services or facilities
  • Change of office structure
  • Outsourcing (or insourcing) work – e.g. translating, health specialists
  • Creation of a specialist area wide team focusing on higher risk patients
  • Increase in remote working / productivity initiatives including duty nurses, hubs, remote outcoming
  • Workforce role redesign
“Given significant financial and workforce constraints, now and in the future, pressure to reconfigure services is only likely to increase.” – The Kings Fund, Nov. 2014
