We were asked by the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) to lead a consultancy project developing the concept for a new national planning framework for district nursing. This is a three month project culminating in a report which was released for the steering group in early 2014. This aimed at developing the concept for a national framework to provide more dynamic workforce and service planning, rostering, information collection and analysis.
The project involved consultation with managers and practitioners involved in the district nursing service across the country, and includes three regional half day workshops in London, Birmingham and Liverpool attended by more than 100 provider representatives. We also engaged in discussions regarding existing tools being successfully applied, to understand how these may form part of a future solution and implications for market development.
QNI were also interested in exploring the potential adaptation of best practice from our Benson health visiting and school nursing models to the district nursing environment. At the completion of the scoping phase, we began discussing potential involvement in the next phase i.e. tool development. After further consultation with stakeholders from various organisations this ultimately led to our pilot which commenced in 2016
